The Association for Research in Infant and Child Development (ARICD) takes the issue of privacy very seriously. This Statement is intended to help you understand how ARICD collects, uses, safeguards and discloses the information collected on our Website. This Privacy Statement does not apply to the use or disclosure of information that is collected or obtained through means other than this Website. It also does not cover links within this site to websites owned or administered by other websites (e.g. Hogrefe, Paypal).

ARICD reserves the right to revise this privacy statement at any time by posting a revised statement on this Website. Use of this Website after such change signifies the user’s acceptance of the changed terms.

Who is responsible for your data.

ARICD is responsible for your data.

We are a learned society, registered as a charity with the UK Charity Commission under registered charity number 1161043. Our registered address is Hill Dickinson LLP, 50 Fountain St, Manchester, M2 2AS. For further details about ARICD, please see here.

We are the data controller and processor of the data that we collect from you, and as such we control the ways your personal data are collected and the purposes for which your personal data are used.

Collection of Information

The information we collect generally includes: (1) personal information you supply, and (2) tracking information collected as you navigate through the Website. We do not collect any sensitive personal information unless you are requesting special services at our events, such as a special diet.

Information Collected From You

Visitors may browse public portions of the ARICD Website anonymously without providing any personal information. However, visitors wishing to book courses and events and Registered Users of the Griffiths Scales are required to open a web account and provide personal information in connection with accessing the Registered User or Member portions of the website and for ARICD to contact you with important and relevant information. It is the responsibility of the User to keep the user’s Profile up-to-date, especially the e-mail address and name.

Information Collected Through Technology

Using technology, ARICD collects non-personally identifiable information, such as IP addresses and cookies, in order to understand how our Website is being used by visitors.

ARICD Use of Information

We only collect information that you provide on the Website. Information collected on the Website will be used by ARICD –

  • to add you as a learner for an e-learning course you have booked,
  • to create mailing lists which are used by ARICD to contact you about updates and news about the Griffiths Scales, and about upcoming ARICD events that may be of interest to you,
  • to add you to the list of Registered Users of Griffiths Scales as long as you wish to remain a Registered User, and
  • we may also use the list to send surveys to obtain users’ views and opinions related to the Griffiths Scales or ARICD.

As a rule, we do not send marketing e-mails. We use e-mail to inform Registered Users of Griffiths Scales about information relating to the use of the Scales. You can opt-out of ARICD e-mail lists if you do not want to receive e-mail communications from ARICD if you are not using the Griffiths Scales. ARICD members may be automatically added to ARICD e-mail lists.

How long we keep your data

We keep your data as long as you wish to be associated with the Griffiths Scales or ARICD. If you are no longer using the Griffiths Scales and no longer wish to be associated with the Griffiths Scales or ARICD, please contact web@aricd.ac.uk, and your record will be permanently deleted from the website, but will be archived in ARICD records as a Registered User or Member of ARICD, if appropriate.

How we protect your data

We use technical measures such as encryption and password protection to protect your data and the systems they are held in. The host of the Website is accredited by ISO [International Organisation for Standardisation] for Information Security. We also use operational measures to protect the data, for example by limiting the number of people who have access to the databases. However, while we employ reasonable security measures to protect your personal information, please be aware that no method of electronic transmission is completely infallible, and we cannot guarantee its absolute safety. If we become aware of any issues, we will promptly inform you.

Sharing your data

  • Your credit and debit card information: PayPal processes payment on the website and we do not keep this information. Please see the PayPal Privacy Policy for details.
  • Your name, country of residence, profession and e-mail address: These are the minimum data needed to open a Website account. If you are a Registered User of Griffiths Scales, we share this information with our publisher Hogrefe in encrypted format in order to enable you to purchase the Griffiths kits and supplies. If appropriate, Hogrefe’s local distributors will be informed by Hogrefe..

Access to your personal data

You have the right to access your personal data and rectify any inaccuracies. If you have any concerns about personal details or images on this site, please e-mail web@aricd.ac.uk.
