FAQs

You are here: Home / About the Griffiths Scales / FAQs

Some of the most frequently asked questions include:

What additional equipment will I need if I have an original 0-2 kit?

You will require the set of 8 objects which has been available from the 1996 Revision of the 0-2 Scale. These objects are:

A perforated ball
Standard teaspoon
Toy car
A doll
A baby’s hair brush
A child’s white sock
A cup with a handle
A 1” (2.5cm) brick

These items can be obtained as a complete set through Hogrefe.

What equipment from the GMDS 2-8 year Scales do I require when administering the 0-2 Scales?

A set of 9 purplse bricks in box with lid
Screw toy.  What equipment do I need from the 0-2 Scales when administering the 2-8 Scales?

Set of brick boxes as these are used for performance items in both the 0-2 and 2-8 Scales but are supplied as part of the 0-2 kit. It is useful when testing children with the 2-8 Scales to have a 0-2 kit available, particularly when testing children aged 2 and 3 years, you may require the set of form boards from the 0-2 Scales.

What additional equipment do I need if I have an original 2-8 kit?

All the new items introduced with the GMDS-ER Version of the Griffiths Scales can be purchased as additional GMDS-ER items through Hogrefe, available as an “Update kit”. These items are:

5 foam blocks
Medium sized ball
Tambourine
A small shoe for a buckle test
Paper items – new large picture, set of 20 new small pictures, laminated card with 2 lines, visual memory card, picture arrangement cards, series test on 2 cards, directional arrow tests on 4 cards.

What can I do if I lose any pieces of the equipment?

It is very important, as far as possible, that testers take great care to ensure their Griffiths Kit is maintained in good order and not to lose any of the individual items. If you have been unfortunate to lose a piece of equipment, it is usually possible to arrange to replace this by contacting the suppliers, Hogrefe. However, replacement service for individual missing pieces of form boards or individual beads cannot be ordered; if you have lost a piece of one of your form boards, you would need to purchase a new complete set of form boards or if you have lost one bead you need to purchase a complete set of new beads.

A new carrying case is available that holds all the original 2-8 items plus the new additional items required for the GMDS-ER. This is provided for testers purchasing the new complete GMDS-ER Scales, but the new cases are also available to purchase separately.

Please note: Purchasers of the new GMDS-ER Scales still require access to the brick boxes from the 0-2 scales, or alternatively, may chose to purchase an extra set of brick boxes when placing their order.
